Mark Simmons
Secondary Department Director

Mr. Simmons has been with LAUSD for 30 years. His service began at Mt. Vernon Junior High School (currently, Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Middle School) as social studies teacher and secondary counselor. He next served in the Pupil Services and Attendance Branch as a PSA Counselor and the Poly/North Hollywood Cluster Counselor.

For the past ten years, he has been an Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services, and an Assistant Principal at Monroe High School. His AALA experience includes this first term as Secondary Director. His other experiences include serving as President of the Senior High Assistant Principals Organization, member of the Francis Polytechnic Instructional Council, and Vice President of APSAC.

In addition, he has served as a member of the WASC accreditation team, the Secondary Periodic Assessment Task Force, and the Ewing Compensation Committee. He is also a passionate supporter of the LAUSD Academic Decathlon and the California Academic Decathlon.
